Construction is fast underway on the $1.5 billion, 22-block Vancouver waterfront project that will bring new jobs, housing, shops and restaurants, and a seven-acre city park, all connected to the downtown core.  The Trust is excited to be participating in the economic development of the Vancouver waterfront, of which the first buildings are anticipated to open next spring.

“We have believed in and been excited about Vancouver doing so many good things to develop the downtown and waterfront core,” says Steve Moore, executive director at the Murdock Trust. “Leaders in the business community, the port, and the city seems to be approaching all of the projects in a comprehensive and holistic way. The park, retail, business, and a variety of living opportunities are the way of the future around the county, and the various developments will bring economic and community vitality to this part of the city.

We at the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust are a small part of the overall big picture of what’s happening. We loved the idea of the water sculpture and park, regardless of our involvement in the new office building Gramor is doing, and have made a grant to support its development.”

“There’s a lot happening downtown,” Eiken said. “What we’re seeing is taking us in a good direction. We have new pubs, new coffee shops and new restaurants opening up. We have more residential coming. And the waterfront will be additive, and probably draw even more people here.”

KATU:

“The new project will include a park, restaurants, a brewery, a boutique hotel, apartments and a new pier, named the Grant Street Pier. The pier will be a 90-foot walkway suspended by cables. Developers say they’re excited to give people in Vancouver access to the river, and a unique space that Portland doesn’t necessarily have.”

KPTV:

“Vancouver is building a billion dollar waterfront with scenic views and plenty of things for visitors to do. The project costs $1.5 billion. The City of Vancouver is collaborating with Waterfront LLC and Gramor Development in order to fund it. The demolition is already done and the foundation has been laid down. Now, the framing is underway.”
