The Letter of Inquiry (LOI) provides an overview of your proposed project and helps us determine whether your organization and project are eligible and aligned with current Trust funding priorities.
Before submitting your LOI: #
- Review our eligibility guidelines to confirm that your organization meets geographical and tax status requirements and that your project fits within the Trust’s current funding priorities.
- Review our current LOI and application submission periods to confirm your project timeline aligns and to determine the right time to submit.
- Create a free Submittable account, as it is required to submit your first form.
- Complete the eligibility assessment in the grants portal. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you will be automatically directed to the LOI form. Note that you can start and save a draft of your work if you would like to finish filling out the form later. When the submission period closes, you will not be able to submit your draft LOI in the system.
What will be asked in the LOI: #
- Organization Background: A brief background of your organization, including website address, an abbreviated mission statement, year founded, type(s) of service provided, constituency and geographic region served and annual operating budget.
- Project Description: A description of the project a Trust grant would support and the need or opportunity it addresses.
- Project Budget and Use of Trust Funds: The total project cost, the amount you intend to request from the Trust, and how you plan to use Murdock Trust funding by identifying which specific elements of your proposed project will be covered by Trust support.
- Target Population: A description of who will benefit from this project.
- Outcomes and Impact: The expected measurable outcomes for your organization and constituency, and the impact you anticipate this project will have on the field, sector, or community.
- Trust Staff Contact: Whether you have had any contact with Trust staff about this project (contact with Trust staff is not required).
After submitting your LOI, it will be reviewed by Trust staff. Organizations that do not meet eligibility guidelines or fall within current funding priorities will receive notice as soon as possible. Eligible organizations and projects will undergo additional review and prioritization by Trust staff and receive decisions by the dates in our submission windows chart. If your LOI is approved, you will be invited to submit a full Strategic Project application.
