It really is amazing the things you can learn over breakfast. Recently, Steve Moore took the “hot seat” and served as the guest for the Vancouver Business Journal Boardroom Breakfast Series, speaking to a packed house of more than 100 attendees. During the hour-long program hosted by publisher, John McDonagh, attendees had the opportunity to learn more about Steve’s personal career path, the guiding principles behind the Murdock Trust and pose their own questions to our executive director.
One of the most tangible items Steve and John discussed during their time was the importance of involvement. Steve urged organizations to reach out to one another, start conversations and form unconventional coalitions to tackle the most substantial challenges facing our communities. In addition, Steve urged organizations to truly engage their volunteer base. He shared that too many organizations rely on volunteers for filing papers and moving boxes. By giving volunteers a real, tangible assignment that reaches the core of the organization’s mission, nonprofits can tap a new level of energy and engagement.
You can read more on the conversation in the Vancouver Business Journal. Our sincere thanks to the VBJ team for the invitation and to the collection of attendees for their thoughtful conversation.
